Superpowers

There may be a professional version of you that you know well - the one you present in job interviews or on your CV, shaped by your career and past roles. Here, we aim to encourage you to broaden that view and uncover superpowers that you may have overlooked!

The thing is, you will likely have strengths and abilities that come naturally to you - qualities you embody effortlessly, just by being yourself. But you may not fully recognise or appreciate these qualities because we often downplay what feels intuitive. Luckily, the people around us can have great insight into these qualities.

This exercise is designed to help you gain insight into your natural aptitudes so you can better recognise the full value of what you bring to the table. After all, you’re much more than the job titles or experiences listed on your CV.

The Exercise: SUPERpowers

  1. Get feedback on your superpowers: Ask five people (or more!) in your network for their insights on what you do best. You can also ask what they notice excites or energises you. Text them, call them, email them - whatever works best! Seek feedback from a diverse group – family, friends, colleagues, partners or even acquaintances.

  2. Document your feedback in hexis: For this exercise you will be using ‘hexis’ - hexagonal shapes where you’ll write down one point of feedback per hexi. You will find a further breakdown of the activity here: Superpowers template.

500 word piece #2

Once you have completed the exercises above, reflect on the insights you’ve gained about your superpowers.

Prompting questions:

  • What surprised you most about the feedback you’ve gathered?

  • How do these identified superpowers connect to your current or past experience? How have they shown up in your life so far?

  • How might you use these superpowers moving forward? What new opportunities or pathways could open up by embracing what you’re naturally good at?
